Uzbekistan's inflation rate falls slightly to 7 percent

Annual inflation in Uzbekistan fell slightly to 7.0 percent in April. In March, it stood at 7.1 percent, and a year ago at 10.1 percent. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee.

On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices rose by 0.6 percent. This kept the rate unchanged from March and was slightly below the April 2025 figure, when prices had risen by 0.7 percent.

Core inflation, i.e., price trends excluding fruits and vegetables, stood at 7.6 percent year-over-year in April. In the previous year, it had been 12.3 percent.

In the first four months of 2026, consumer prices rose by a total of 2.5 percent. During the same period the previous year, the increase had been 2.9 percent.

Food remains the main driver of prices

Food remained the most significant factor in monthly inflation in April. Prices rose by 1.0 percent, contributing more than 60 percent to the overall price increase.

Prices for non-food items rose moderately by 0.3 percent month-over-month. Year-over-year, they were 5.2 percent higher. This continued the decline from the annual inflation rate of 6.7 percent in April 2025.

Inflation in the services sector also eased but remained elevated. Services prices rose by 0.4 percent month-over-month and by 12.0 percent year-over-year.

Mixed trends in fuel and transportation

In the transportation sector, gasoline prices rose by 1.4 percent compared to the previous month. They were 11.2 percent higher than a year earlier.

Prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fell by 2.8 percent month-over-month and were 16.7 percent below the level of April 2025. A price cap of 7,000 sum per liter applies.

Methane prices rose by 0.7 percent month-over-month and cost nearly 28 percent more than a year ago.

In passenger transport, prices for international flights rose by 2.6 percent compared to the previous month but were 7.9 percent below the previous year’s level. Domestic flights became 2.3 percent more expensive on a monthly basis but were 13.1 percent cheaper year-over-year. City bus fares rose by 1.6 percent compared to the previous month and by 16.4 percent compared to the previous year. Long-distance train fares increased by 1.4 percent month-over-month and were 13.6 percent higher than the previous year’s figure.

Rates for utility services remained largely stable. Waste disposal was an exception: its prices rose by 2.4 percent month-over-month and by 28.0 percent year-over-year.
